Surrendered School of Dance

The 2026–2027 school year has begun at Surrendered School of Dance, and there is still time to join us.

Whether your student is stepping into a ballet studio for the very first time or is an experienced dancer looking to continue growing, we welcome beginning through advanced students at our Tacoma and Orting campuses.

Our goal is to provide excellent ballet training in an encouraging, Christ-centered environment where students can grow as dancers, develop confidence and discipline, and become part of a supportive community.

Ballet Classes offered for studentsAges 3 Through Adult! Beginning through Advanced

At our Tacoma campus, ballet classes are available for students ages 3 through adult from introductory classes for young children and beginners through intermediate and advanced ballet training.

Our Orting campus offers ballet classes for students ages 3 through 12, giving families in the Orting Valley, Graham, and surrounding communities an opportunity to begin and continue dance training closer to home.

No previous ballet experience is necessary for our beginning levels.

If your child has been asking to try ballet, recently moved to the area, is returning to dance after some time away, or simply needs a positive activity for the school year, this is a great time to begin.

Adults are welcome too. Whether you danced years ago or have always wanted to try ballet, we offer opportunities to step into the studio and learn. If you are 18 or older and want to take a ballet class, check out our schedule for classes labeled Teen/Adult.

Serving Families Throughout the South Sound

Families travel to Surrendered School of Dance from throughout Tacoma and the greater South Sound.

Our Tacoma campus regularly serves students from Tacoma, University Place, Fircrest, Lakewood, Steilacoom, Spanaway, Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), Gig Harbor, DuPont, Puyallup, and surrounding communities.

We are especially glad to welcome military families from JBLM. Moving to a new duty station often means finding new schools, churches, friendships, activities, and routines all at once. Over the years, military families have found their way to Surrendered School of Dance and become an important part of our school community.

If your family is new to Joint Base Lewis-McChord or the South Sound and you are looking for ballet classes near JBLM, we would love to help you find the right class for your dancer.

Our Orting campus serves families from Orting, Bonney Lake, Sumner, Puyallup, and nearby communities.

For many families, choosing a dance school is about more than finding the closest studio. They are looking for strong instruction, age-appropriate classes, teachers who care about their students, and an environment where children can grow without the pressures often associated with competitive dance.

That is what we seek to provide.

A Place for Beginners and Experienced Dancers

You do not need to know anything about ballet before walking through our doors.

Our youngest dancers begin by learning movement, rhythm, coordination, classroom skills, and the foundations of ballet in an age-appropriate setting.

As students grow, their training becomes increasingly focused on classical ballet technique, musicality, artistry, strength, coordination, and performance.

Students who already have ballet experience are also welcome. We offer training for intermediate and advanced dancers who want to continue developing their technique and artistry.

If you are unsure where your student belongs, we can help determine an appropriate class or level.

A Ballet Program for Many Types of Families

Our students come from a wide variety of educational backgrounds, including:

  • Public schools
  • Private schools
  • Christian schools
  • Home-school families
  • Home-school co-ops
  • Preschools and daycare’s
  • Alternative education programs
  • After-school programs

Ballet can be a valuable part of a student’s week as an extracurricular activity, physical activity, movement education, or supplemental physical education experience.

Home-school families in particular may find ballet to be a helpful addition to a well-rounded school week. Dance develops strength, balance, coordination, musicality, spatial awareness, focus, memory, perseverance, and confidence while also giving students an opportunity to learn alongside other children.

Families should check the requirements of their individual home-school program before counting dance toward formal physical education requirements but many families include activities such as ballet as part of their broader PE and enrichment plans.

We are also interested in connecting with home-school co-ops, Christian schools, private schools, preschools, daycare’s, and after-school programs that are looking for dance opportunities for their students.

Why Ballet for your child?

Ballet provides a strong foundation for nearly every other style of dance, but the benefits extend well beyond the studio.

Students learn to listen carefully, follow instruction, work toward long-term goals, receive correction, practice consistently, and celebrate the progress of others.

For young children, ballet develops coordination, rhythm, creativity, balance, body awareness, and classroom readiness.

For older students, ballet develops strength, control, musicality, artistry, discipline, and perseverance.

And for adults, ballet can be an enjoyable way to stay active, return to something once loved, or finally try something new.

Christ-Centered and Non-Competitive Ballet Classes

Surrendered School of Dance is a Christian dance school with a strong emphasis on ballet training.

We want students to pursue excellence while also learning humility, encouragement, perseverance, kindness, and respect for one another.

We are also a non-competitive dance school. Our focus is not on trophies or rankings. We want students to learn, grow, perform, develop their gifts, and discover the joy of dance in a healthy environment.

Families do not need to come from a particular church or denomination to attend. We welcome families from throughout our community.

You Haven’t Missed Your Opportunity to Join a Ballet Class

Although our school year has already begun, registration remains open in classes that still have space available.

Starting a few days or weeks after the beginning of the school year does not mean your dancer has missed the opportunity to participate. Our teachers are accustomed to welcoming new students and helping them become comfortable in their class. If you are unsure, please give us a call or send us an email. For students ages 10+ we encourage a placement class before beginning. If your student is in need of additional assistance or would like to learn the fundamentals before joining a class, we also offer private lessons to help get them started.

If you have been thinking about ballet for your child, teen, or yourself, now is a wonderful time to explore your options.
